The Louvre
Whether you go to museums regularly or you’re just beginning to learn about them, chances are that you already heard of the Louvre museum in Paris. An interesting thing about the Louvre is that it was essentially a medieval fortress and the palace of the kings before becoming a museum around 200 years ago. Just the fact that the building itself has a lot of historical value should make you want to visit it, but wait until you see what’s inside. It is the home to many renowned artworks and antiquities, most famous being the Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”, “Venus de Milo”, “Nike of Samothrace”, etc.
The Smithsonian
Located in Washington DC, The Smithsonian is the largest museum complex in the world by far. It consists of several museums and galleries, a zoo park, and a few research buildings. Many things that are displayed here represent important objects and artworks from the American history, the most famous being the Wright brothers first airplane, Apolo 11 command module, the original American flag (Star-Spangled Banner), and many more. The Smithsonian is huge, and even if you spent years of visiting, you probably won’t even come close to seeing everything there is in it.
The Acropolis Museum

If you happen to visit the nation’s capital of Athens, the Acropolis Museum should definitely be on your to-do list. Instead of focusing primarily on its own national history, The British Museum takes care of many artifacts and objects found all over the world. Everything from prehistoric bones and fossils, to famous Greek sculptures known as the Elgin Marbles, can be found in this huge complex. While you are in the museum, make sure to take a walk down the Egyptian gallery where you can find the largest collection of various artifacts found in the pyramids.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Also called “The Met”, this museum is one of the most noted landmarks of New York City, and also the largest museum outside of Europe. It has a huge collection of works from famous European painters like Rembrandt and Botticelli, and it also has a quite impressive Egyptian gallery consisting of well-known tombs and temples. The piece that can be considered the biggest attraction, however, is the Albrecht Dürer’s “Adam and Eve”.
