Summer is the season where you go out, have fun, enjoy your free time. Summer is also the season when the entire world is enveloped in music festivals and heat. Music festivals, however, being so numerous, can attract a variety of people as they are usually filtered by genre.
Here are some of the world’s most anticipated summer festivals:
· Primavera Sound
Primavera sound is a festival which takes place in Barcelona from May 30th to June 3rd. This festival has been going on since 2001 and has one of the most well-rounded lineups ever. It is situated in Barcelona in the Parc del Fòrum site.
This year’s lineup includes some rather famous names like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Arctic Monkeys, Lorde, Jane Birkin and many, many more. This might not be a Summer festival if you look at the calendar, but it is definitely a good place to start your festival trip.
· Boston Calling
This year’s lineup for the Boston Calling leans a bit towards rock, yet there still is more than enough variety to keep people interested. The festival’s site is at 65 N. Harvard St., Allston, MA and takes place from May 25th until May 27th.
The lineup features some interesting names like Paramore, Jack White, Queens of the Stone Age, The Killers and even Eminem. Variety is always key when it comes to music festivals.
· Lovebox
This festival has its roots in 2002 and was in a different location up to 2018. In 2018 they announced their move to Gunnersbury Park in London. This festival is on July the 13th and 14th and features some really interesting names like Wu-Tang Clan, Skepta, N.E.R.D, Bonobo, Vince Staples and Childish Gambino.
· Lollapalooza
This one has some history behind it, almost 27 years of history when you look at its inception date of July 18 1991. With that in mind, this festival is geared towards rock, alternative and punk rock, heavy metal, pop, electronic music and hip hop. The festival itself is due to take place in Grant Park, Chicago, Illinoi, this year. It had its touring years, with festivals in Berlin, Paris, São Paulo, Santiago and will likely expand even further.
This year’s lineup features names like The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Arctic Monkeys, Zedd, Travis Scott and Arctic Monkeys. August 2nd to August 5th, mark your calendars if you do not want to miss this historical festival.
· Night of the Prog
This festival takes place at the legendary Loreley amphitheater and it is a UNESCO World Heritage. It held the many ROCKPALAST shows in the 70s and 80s and now hosts the Night of the Prog festival. The amphitheater is located very close to Sankt Goarshausen which is between Frankfurt and Cologne.
This year’s festival is scheduled for July 13th, 14th and 15th. Given the name, you can expect many progressive rock bands to make an appearance here like Camel, Riverside, Big Big Train, Isildur’s Bane with Marillion’s Steve Hogarth.
Do not miss any of these festivals if you love good music and entertainment.
